Role
Designer

Objective
To inform of and solicit registration for a continuing studies series based on Civil War events in Missouri

Process
When I received the text for this project, one phrase stood out: immerse yourself in Civil War history. That guided my design approach as I looked for ways to illustrate this imperative.

The budget didn't allow for stock photography so I sourced images that were in the public domain from the National Archives. I found illustrations of battles in Missouri that I colorized and cropped to fit the layout. The cover portrait was taken at Benton Barracks in St. Louis. I scanned and altered a sheet of parchment for the background.

I chose the Rosewood typeface for its historic appearance. It has an ornamented font that worked well in the title but also a filled font that could be used in headers throughout the brochure.
